Workshop-Race, Racism and Systemic Practice and Supervision with Nick Pendry

Friends of KCC warmly invite you to a Workshop on

Race, Racism and Systemic Practice and Supervision with Nick Pendry

Date:  Monday 18th November 2013, 10-4:30.   Venue: The Brockway Room, Conway Hall, 25 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL

It would seem that “race” matters now more than ever. The on-going experience of racism within football is an example of this. This workshop will focus upon the influence of race and racism in the practice and supervision of family and systemic psychotherapy. We will look together at the way in which “race” might be conceptualised, and how it is represented in bodily form through the ways in which we look, before looking in brief at how “race” and racism have been addressed in the field. We will turn attention to ideas about how therapists and supervisors might position themselves in relation to these issues, and the implications this might have for relationships. Some guidelines for practice will be offered and workshop participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and exercises that will test out the fit of these ideas in their own practice
